Haeloti and Ekhaet are both humans, both vary in appearance from short to tall, and from light skinned to dark, and from thin to fat. Basically all normal variations exist within the Haeloti and the Ekhaet, although the Ekhaet have less propensity for obesity.
The Ekhaet are not set apart from the Haeloti by appearance, but because they are blessed by Night herself to wear the shape and form of beasts. Once they were a distinct people set apart from the Haeloti, but eons have passed, and those marked by her have mingled with the Haeloti and bourne children by them, so that now only a few recall that the Tribes exist - that the mighty all powerful and merciful Haelot is the lesser of two brothers, and is not the only one who has dominion on Eurshanaem.
Prejudice is a powerful motivator in the world of Eurshanaem, just as it is in our own. Prejudice is simply blind to the truths of the world. In Eurshanaem, prejudice has many complicated faces; some began with earnest difficulties created by Haelot, and his followers. Other prejudices are in response to the strange and often alien outlooks on life that are espoused by different cultures. Ekhaet fear and harbor some resentment towards the Haeloti, who they feel are wrong to serve a deity that is at best dangerously vindictive and impulsive, and at worst an insane evil force.
Haeloti, having been served by the generous face of Haelot cannot see the distress he has caused others, and fear the faceless and to them more distant Mother Night and Eur. But religious prejudice is not the only prejudice of the world, Haeloti fear magic and have a dedicated profession peripherally tied to the church to hunt down magic practitioners, which includes those gifted with divine abilities such as the Ekhaet, but do not include the Priests of Haelot.
